Stilyana Gerova was driving through a wooded road when her car suddenly broke down. At first, it seemed like just another annoying setback.

But as she pulled over to fix the flat tire, something caught her eye that would turn this frustrating moment into a life-changing one.

As Gerova inspected her car, she noticed something moving in the distance. She didn’t pay too much attention to it at first, but as she looked closer, her heart dropped.

A tiny puppy was running in circles with something wrapped around his neck.

It quickly became clear that the poor pup had been scavenging through the trash, desperately searching for food, when a KFC takeout bag became tangled around him.

He was trapped, starving, and terrified, as Gerova shared in an interview:

“I found him near the road where there is a train station in the forest. He was only skin and bones – very hungry and afraid.”

It was a heartbreaking sight, but little did he know that his life was about to change forever.

Gerova is the heart and soul of a rescue organization dedicated to helping animals in need. With over 200 dogs and 80 cats currently in her care, she’s no stranger to the struggles these animals face, each one waiting for a chance at a better life.

So, when she stumbled upon another soul in need of help, there was no hesitation. She could tell right away that this was a pup with a will to survive, and she wasn’t about to let him down.

Gerova carefully scooped him up and took him to her rescue center.

Zaki, as he was soon named, found the perfect refuge there, surrounded by care, attention, and a chance to heal and start over.

At the rescue, Zaki’s transformation was nothing short of amazing. Though he had been through so much in his short life, he quickly started showing signs of his true personality.

His curiosity and playful spirit shone through, and before long, he was happily exploring the world around him.

His favorite thing was going for long walks where he could sniff every tree, meet new people, and just enjoy life.

But when the excitement of the day was over, Zaki loved nothing more than curling up for a good cuddle, soaking up the love and attention he had longed for.

Now, at about a year old, Zaki is a friendly and social pup who’s full of life. He’s always eager to interact with people and other dogs, and he makes friends wherever he goes.

He’s also gradually getting along better with the cats at the rescue as he learns to share his space with them.

His rescuers believe that Zaki would do best in a home with an active family who can keep up with his energy and give him the time and attention he deserves.

Most of all, though, he just needs a loving person who will help him continue to grow into the confident, happy dog he’s meant to be.

Thanks to Gerova and her unexpected flat tire, Zaki was given a life-changing second chance.

From the moment he was rescued, he’s come such a long way. The scared, starving little dog he once was has transformed into the happy, curious pup he is today.

Now, Zaki is ready to take the next step and find his forever home, a place where he can continue to grow, explore, and share his boundless love with someone who will cherish him for the rest of his life.
